Make Up Fail

Sarah Michelle Gellar

This isn't the first time I've seen this blunder on a celeb.
The scenario- this artist probably did SMG's foundation and other face makeup first before moving to the eyes and therefore put translucent powder under the eyes so that if there was any fallout from the eyeshadow he artist could simply sweep it away. The translucent powder prevents he fallout from sticking to the undereye concealer and foundation. This is a good technique but the problem happens when there is too much powder or not sweeping it all off.

I avoid this all together and start the makeup application with the eyes. This way I can make all the mess in the world under the eye and just clean it up with a baby wipe before moving on to the face makeup. You look silly for a minute wearing an amazing eye and bare face but it's worth it.

To line or not to line?

Many people ask me, "is a lip liner necessary".
The answer is yes and no.

WHO SHOULD- Older women should line to keep their lip color in place because the fine lines round the lip that develop over time can cause the color to bleed past the lip line.

WITH GLOSS- I do prefer to use a liner if I'm using a gloss only and no lip stick. In this case you should line the lip first before applying the gloss. Be sure to use a liner that is your lip color or a similar color to the gloss and smudge the gloss into the liner so it blends together a little bit.

HELPFUL HINT- to make lips look plumper, line the lip on the natural lip line then fill in halfway to the center of your lip on the top and bottom. Then apply the gloss. This will leave the center of the lip a shade lighter and give the illusion of a pouty lip.

WITH LIPSTICK- A liner isn't always necessary when using a lipstick however applying one after the lipstick is applied gives a more polished look. You'll notice when you do so your lips pop a lot more. In this case use a lip liner color that matches your lipstick.

When wearing reds or other deep color lip sticks I like to line the lip with Laura Mercier's Clear lip pencil. This wax pencil ensures the color won't bleed past the lip line. Then I proceed with the above instructions.

The Search for the perfect Under eye concealer

Published: Jan 23, 2012 by admin Filed under: BEAUTY

I have very dark circles under my eye so I'm always looking for a magic potion to cure it... Or at least just hide it. I know in actuality nothing will cure it. My dark circles are hereditary.

That being said i still I feel like I've tried everything. Recently I've explored Dior's eye serum and La Mer's eye concentrate. Both felt great but i didn't see much of a difference. Right now I'm using Laura Mercier's Repair Eye serum and Repair Eye Cream. I believe that the arnica extract in the serum lightens the blue under my eye (as it also does in bruising) but I also love the instant gratification that I get from the brightness it gives. This makes it a lot easier to conceal.

Next I use Laura Mercier's Undereye Perfecter. This is a color corrector and should only be used on sever dark circles otherwise it might look too yellow or pink on people with minor darkness.

My most recent explorations in under eye concealer include:
*Makeup Forever- OK, nice thin texture but I could still see darkness and it could sometimes come off looking dry
*Laura Mercier's Secret Concealer- also ok, nice moiturizing texture but a little thick and I definitely need to touch up throughout the day even when using their brightening powder to set it.
*Mac pro long wear- full coverage but I had to blend two colors to get the right match and it often looked dry
*Chanel- mouse like texture felt nice but the colors are limited and under eye darkness still showed through.
*Bobbie Brown secret of the universe- the color corrector plus conceal plus powder felt heavy and wore off quickly
*Armani- currently using. So far I like it. Nice silky texture. I found a good color match even though their shades are limited (3 new shades are due this Spring).

The search continues.

Remember ladies- when looking for a concealer make sure the color matches your whole face. It's fiction that
your concealer should be a shade lighter and won't cover the blue.
