TIPS

Beauty hygiene

Published: Feb 23, 2012 by admin Filed under: TIPS
OK ladies, I've witnessed WAY too many women grab a lipgloss or mascara tester from a department store or Sephora and just start putting it on. Great! Thank you for spreading your germs to the next person who wants to use that tester. Or even better who's to say that someone with herpes or some nasty eye fungus didn't just do the same thing before you? Yuck!

Very simply ladies ask for help. An associate should be happy to hand you an applicator or some alcohol to clean the product before you try it. Trust me no store wants a law suit so they will gladly do this for you.

That being said. Let's talk about the germs lying in your own makeup bag. Something's to know
*everything cosmetic product has an icon on it of an open jar and a number plus the letter m in it. Like this http://www.vivawoman.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/p4060022.jpg
This is he amount of months after the product is opened that is should be thrown out. After that time period the product could be harvesting bacteria or change in consistency or color.

*mascara should be throw away 3 months after its first use.
*if you are sick and using lipstick you may want to clean it with a spray of alcohol before using it again or else you may give yourself the cold germs again.
*Try to wash your brushes at least every week if not every day.
*use your sense of smell. If there's a smell in the gloss, toss.
*and don't forget to clean out the inside of your makeup bag with a disinfectant wipe.

Neon

Neon is a big trend in fashion for this Spring/Summer and Laura Mercier is the place to go to pull it off in makeup colors without  looking like a clown.

Their gel lipsticks are back in 5 bold shades. These sticks are super moisturizing with peach, apricot and almond oils and sheer enough for an everyday look.

What's even more fabulous is that they are debuting a limited edition nail polish collection to match the gel lips! These five fast drying, chip resistant colors have no formaldehyde, toluene or dibutyl phthalate (DBP).

To line or not to line?

Many people ask me, "is a lip liner necessary".
The answer is yes and no.

WHO SHOULD- Older women should line to keep their lip color in place because the fine lines round the lip that develop over time can cause the color to bleed past the lip line.

WITH GLOSS- I do prefer to use a liner if I'm using a gloss only and no lip stick. In this case you should line the lip first before applying the gloss. Be sure to use a liner that is your lip color or a similar color to the gloss and smudge the gloss into the liner so it blends together a little bit.

HELPFUL HINT- to make lips look plumper, line the lip on the natural lip line then fill in halfway to the center of your lip on the top and bottom. Then apply the gloss. This will leave the center of the lip a shade lighter and give the illusion of a pouty lip.

WITH LIPSTICK- A liner isn't always necessary when using a lipstick however applying one after the lipstick is applied gives a more polished look. You'll notice when you do so your lips pop a lot more. In this case use a lip liner color that matches your lipstick.

When wearing reds or other deep color lip sticks I like to line the lip with Laura Mercier's Clear lip pencil. This wax pencil ensures the color won't bleed past the lip line. Then I proceed with the above instructions.

Finding Foundation

Published: Jan 18, 2012 by admin Filed under: TIPS
It may seem common sense to some but to others finding a foundation that matches your color is a shot in the dark.

First find a texture that works best for your skin type (oily, dry, combination).

Next decide home much coverage you want (light, medium, full). It's a good idea to have two different kinds so you can wardrobe them. For example, a full coverage for a night out and a medium coverage for everyday wear.

Once you've selected your foundation try a swipe of three different colors on your chin. Start with the shade you or your salesperson think you are. The next to that color swipe a shade lighter and a shade darker onto the face. Don't blend it in. A good color match should blend seemlessly into your skin color without being rub in with a sponge. The chin is a good place to test because you can look at the color and compare it to your next to avoid having your face and neck be. Two different colors.

Good luck!

Spring Tips 2012

Yes I am already thinking about spring ;) and it will be here before you know it. This spring is going to be all about coral. The first collections of the season that I've seen from YSL, Chanel and Laura Mercier's have proven this. YSL certainly takes a more vibrant approach adding in lavender and yellow hues to their palette while Laura Mercier's is all about a light smokey eye and pale pout. Chanel has two fantastic new nail polish with their new collection- a muted peach and pretty berry sorbet tone.

To wear this trend find a coral that suits your skin- fair skin tones shouldn't go too bright with the coral while dark skin tones can go to a more orange or sheer hue but not light or it will appear chalky.
